How to Care For Your Gold Jewelry From Tranquil

Although 10k, 14k, 18k, and 22k solid-gold jewelry may be your first choice for pieces that cost a decent amount and can live a long life, our jewelry is an alternative for pieces that can keep their shine and last just as long with proper care.

How to Care For Gold Bonded & Filled Jewelry

All of our gold necklace pendants are 18k gold bonded while the chains for them are 14k gold-filled. Our bracelet charms and spacers are 14k gold-filled as well. Gold bonded is sterling silver coated in quality 18k real gold. Gold filled is a thick layer of 14k solid gold on the outside of a metal core. The gold that's on the outside of both gold bonded and gold-filled is the same gold as you would get from a real, solid gold piece.

To keep your gold pieces looking new for as long as possible, you want to keep it away from water. The best way to clean your jewelry is by polishing it using a soft cloth to remove particles of dirt and dust. If a deeper clean is needed, we recommend soaking it in warm, soapy water for 3 minutes. Follow by cleaning it with a soft cloth then  drying the piece immediately. These methods apply to our gold necklace pendants, chains, and bracelet charms.

How Often You Should Clean Your Jewelry

All gold jewelry should be treated with the same care but the amount you should clean it depends on the amount of wear and tear. When wearing your jewelry all the time, you should clean it with the cloth method once every two weeks. If you wear your jewelry all the time but haven't cleaned it for longer than a month, we recommend using the warm water cleaning method and following up with the cloth polish every two weeks.

What to Avoid Doing While Wearing Your Gold

The better option is to keep your jewelry away from products like lotion, hairspray, sunscreen, and shampoo. When handling bleach and other similar cleaning products, its best to remove jewelry beforehand. These items contain chemicals that speed up tarnishing and damage. Unfortunately, they will shorten the life span of your jewelry. Although it may be hard not to wear them, for the lasting shine, care is essential.
